PC Set Up Guide

After you receive your custom PC, follow these steps carefully to ensure the long term health and wellbeing of your computer.

Step 1: Unbox the computer.

Unbox the computer, removing it from the the top of the box. It will be marked "This side up". Take care to slowly remove it from the box in the correct orientation as to not accidentally damage the computer.

Step 2: Inspect the computer.

Inspect the computer. Please make sure that the case and components arrived to you in good condition, with no visible damage, case dents, or other forms of damage. If there is any visible damage, please contact our customer support via email at tallnecktech@gmail.com. Customer support is also available by call or text at 1-201-429-3626.

Step 3: Remove all packing materials, and protective covers from the computer.

Carefully open the side panels on your case, and remove any packing material that was placed inside of your computer. Some computer cases will have instapack (a packing material that expands once activated) inside, while others will have cardboard. There will be special instructions if there is less obvious packing material in your computer.

Step 4: Place your computer.

Place your computer in a temperature regulated, dry room. Ensure that there is sufficient space around the case to pull cool air from, and exhaust cool air. Some computer cases will pull air from the sides and bottom. Other cases pull air from the front and back. Special instructions will be given per your PC case. Place your computer on a solid surface. Wood, tile, or a metal frame are all fine. Leaving space between the floor and your computer is optimal, as it allows any bottom fans to more easily pull cool air. I recommend this pc riser for the Tallneck Trico.

Step 5: Plug your computer into a grounded surge protector.

Plug one end of the power cable that came with your computer into the power supply in the back of the computer, and the other end into a grounded surge protector. It is important to use a grounded surge protector, as it protects the computer from voltage spikes that occur naturally in electrical grids. Anything above 600 Joules of surge protection is more than enough. I recommend this surge protector for a single computer and monitor, or this surge protector for multiple monitors and computers.

Step 6: Plug your computer into your monitor(s)

Plug your computer into your monitor(s) using either a DisplayPort 2.1 cable or a HDMI 2.1 cable. Take care to plug the monitor into the ports from your graphics card and not your motherboard, as you will not get the full benefit of your PC without plugging your monitor into your graphics card. Some PCs only have video out from the graphics card, and will be indicated in the listing before purchase (all Intel processors that end with the letter "f" don't have video out.)

Step 7: Insert any additional cables or dongles into the computer.

Insert any additional cables or components into the computer. Any computer that comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas will need to be plugged into the back of the computer to receive full Wi-Fi and Bluetooth range signals. It is recommended to use Ethernet even with Wi-Fi, as it decreases latency significantly with your home network. If you need to purchase an Ethernet cable, I recommend Cat 6 cables, as they will cover even the fastest Verizon Fios home networks. Plug in any audio equipment into the correct port in the back of the motherboard. Most computer speakers will plug into the green 1/8 inch audio jack. Plug in your mouse and keyboard. If they are wireless, there should be a USB dongle that will need to be plugged in order to utilize them with your computer.

Step 8: Turn on your computer.

After your computer is plugged into the surge protector, your monitor and additional cables are plugged in, turn the switch on the computer power supply located in the back of the computer to the on position, marked "I" (The off position is marked "O"). Then, ensure that your surge protector is also on. There should be a green light indicator that your surge protector is working properly.

Ensure the "I" is clicked on the power supply switch. Finally, press the power button on your computer. For most cases, this will be the front or top side of your case.

Step 9: Connect to the internet

Connect to your home internet. If you are using an ethernet cable connected to your home network, this should happen automatically. If you are connected to your home network via Wi-Fi, click the icon marked in red above on your taskbar. Then, click the Wi-Fi icon in the top left, and sign in to your home network. Take this time to connect any additional Bluetooth devices you have.

Step 10: Enjoy your computer!
